Our Story

Watch our story video
We joined the Boy Scouts of America program in 2001, to spend time with our son.  Going through some adult training called Wood Badge in 2002, a presentation was given that made a profound impact on our family. Below is an excerpt from that presentation:

"A pen is a simple invention, really, used by millions of people. But words depend not on the pen itself, but on the person who holds it.

  • In the hand of Kathryn Lee Bates, a pen wrote the words to “America the Beautiful.”
  • In the hand of a red-headed lawyer from Virginia, a pen wrote the words to one of the greatest documents in history, The Declaration of Independence.
  • In the hand of a tall, tired president, a pen wrote, “Fourscore and seven years ago . . . .”—The Gettysburg Address.”

For the last 20+ years, our family’s motto for has been “DSTM” – “Do Something That Matters”. We have combined our family motto and the importance of the pen to create Pens With A Purpose.  As part of our DSTM initiative, we are contributing a percentage from every hand turned item sold to SERV InternationalEach item sold provides at least 25 meals to various locations around the world.

When you hold a pen in your hand, the words it will write depend on you and could define your legacy.  May you choose to use your Pen With A Purpose - to build someone up and help us “It Starts With Food

Phil 2:13  “for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose”.
